It’s that time of year again! Snow has started falling (however sporadically), the holiday songs are being released, the house is being decorated… It’s Christmas!! Now, you may have to know me personally to know how much I truly love Christmas. But I thought I’d share the love on here too. Every time Christmas comes around I often think about why I love it so much. What brought about my adoration of twinkly lights, big baubles and Christmas eve movie time. So I’m going to share with you 10 reasons I love Christmas so much!
I have a real love for lights, Christmas lights, fairy lights, chandeliers. If it lights up I like it. As far back as I can even remember lights have been a part of Christmas for me. It’s my favourite thing about Christmas trees and decorations. And I remember driving through my town all the time and just seeing the rows of lit up trees alongside the road. Driving past houses and looking for the one that’s most decorated and with the most lights. Winter can be a little gloomy sometimes, what with all the rain here, and people getting sick. I just feel like lights add a brightness (figuratively and literally) to the holidays that help make things feel warm and fuzzy again.
I try to restrict hot chocolate to Christmas only. I don’t always succeed, but it is what it is. Hot chocolate can make any good Christmas related activity go from ‘good’ to ‘holly jolly’ (aka. awesome!) I love sitting watching Christmas movies and drinking hot chocolate. Waking up on a cold morning and drinking hot chocolate. Supervising the decorations committee at home and drinking hot chocolate. Add hot chocolate and it’s a party.
Definitely one of the best things about Christmas. When you’ve put all the decs up, have a cup of cocoa in hand, Christmas movies are the perfect way to end any night. All the way from November to January (that’s just what I’m willing to own up to). I don’t care what anyone says. Elf, The Holiday, White Christmas, Four Christmases. I could go on and on!
Christmas always seems to put family closer. At least, those of us that keep in touch with each other. So my immediate family always plans certain things at Christmas time. and I love the time we spend together during the holidays. This year in particular is jam-packed with family festive time, and I can’t wait.
Oh food, glorious food. I don’t know if it’s safe for me to talk about food. We might be here all night. But the food at Christmas is one of my favourite things about the year, not just Christmas. Yorkshire puddings, turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing. I should probably stop now. But I love it!
Watching People Open Presents
I love to see peoples faces light up (usually) as you they open their presents. It’s contagious and then everyone ends up smiling. I love how grateful they are when they see what I got them. It’s just so lovely.
It doesn’t tend to snow a lot here in this part of England at Christmas. But we did get a couple of snowfalls that stuck this year, and it was so beautiful! Waking up to see the street covered in white, not even able to see the roofs on houses. Getting wrapped up to go outside, and feeling the snowflakes land in the palm of my hand. Even at 21 I still get as excited about snow as I did ten years ago.
Seeing all the good parts about Christmas is such a beautiful thing to me. I know that just like any other time of year there are some awful things in the world but I like to think that during the holidays the good outweighs the bad. Going to a restaurant at Christmas and getting to see families and friends laughing and smiling in a way I don’t always see. It’s hard to always explain the joy at Christmas, but you know it when you see it.
